Our Kit
What’s in our kit?
One of the top questions we get asked on a shoot, at an event or about our work is ‘What camera/lens/set up are you using?’, and the best follow up question is ‘Why?’
This is a great question to ask, and we love sharing our insight, knowledge and experience in our industry, with our community any way we can. So, we’ve broken down our entire camera gear collection into different categories and done our best to explain each product and its purpose in our kit.
We hope we’re able to provide any insight we can, to help you either on your own photography/videography journey, or maybe just nail some sick shots of your friends having fun, or your car.
Shooting Video
As videos are probably our favourite type of media, and one of the more challenging types to learn, we thought we’d start here.
Over the years we’ve been progressively upgrading our setup for shooting video and are super stoked with our current dedicated filming mirrorless camera body*, the Fujifilm X-H2S. This camera produces awesome Fujifilm colours, has incredible shooting speeds perfect for action shots and features this new really cool thing called open-gate shooting, which makes it able to shoot video a little bit taller which can be super helpful if you need to crop your footage to vertical a lot, like for reels and that.
We shoot video a mix of handheld, tripod and with our DJI RS3 Ronin gimble. Using a gimble does a great job stabilising the camera and to create super smooth footage, as well as giving us a bit more reach when filming rollers or stuff up high or down low. Both of the cameras we use, Fujifilm X-H2S and X-T5, feature in body stabilisation which makes a massive difference making the footage more smooth and less shaky, especially when shooting video handheld. When we’re shooting anything where the camera needs to stay still like a time-lapse, interview or PTC (Piece-To-Camera - someone talking to the camera), we use a Manfrotto tripod. This tripod is super light and packs up pretty small, (taking up as little space as possible is definitely valued when you’re kit is competing for space with the rest of your camping gear for a shoot).
*(filming/video - same thing. We call it a camera body because on these camera you choose the body seperate to the lens, we’re just talking about the part that’s NOT the lens)
Shooting Photos
When it comes to shooting photos we actually tend to switch between our Fujifilm X-H2S and our Fujifilm X-T5, depending on what we’re capturing.
The Fujifilm X-H2S, we tend to utilise when we’re shooting something moving really and want to get lots of shots of the actions really quickly.
The Fujifilm X-T5 is also an awesome camera, with its 40.2mp sensor, this camera is great for shooting pretty much every other type of shot, with it’s insane image quality and clutch flip screen it’s such an easy camera to work with and has the capability and tech features to compete as an industry standard camera.
One of the things we love about running these camera’s together is as they’re both X-Mount systems, which means we can share the same lenses between them, as well as batteries and memory cards (which is super handy when trying to pack light for a trip away). They are both also weather resistant which is a must when we’re shooting outside (pretty much always).
Our Lenses
We use all our lenses for photography and videography, just depending on what we’re shooting and the conditions we’re shooting in.
